Taking the First Step Toward Hormone Optimization
If you have been considering hormone therapy — for testosterone, HRT, weight management, or peptides — the initial consultation can feel daunting: a mix of anticipation, uncertainty about what tests will be ordered, and perhaps some vulnerability in discussing symptoms that feel deeply personal. Here is an honest, transparent walk-through of exactly what to expect from your first Multigen Wellness consultation, so you can come prepared and get the most from it.
Before Your Appointment: Preparing for the Consultation
Getting the most from your initial consultation requires some preparation. Most valuable things to have ready:
- Symptom timeline: When did symptoms begin? Have they been gradual or sudden? Which symptoms are most disruptive to daily function?
- Prior lab work: If you have had hormone testing done elsewhere in the past 12 months, bring those results. Prior thyroid, testosterone, or metabolic panels give important baseline context.
- Current medications and supplements: Include everything — prescription medications, OTC medications, and supplements (especially anything marketed for hormonal health, because some supplements can significantly affect lab results)
- Health history summary: Any chronic conditions, prior surgeries, family history of hormonal cancers, cardiovascular disease, or endocrine disorders
- Your goals: What specifically do you want to improve? Energy? Body composition? Sexual function? Cognitive performance? Sleep? Having clear priorities helps your provider build a protocol aligned with what matters most to you.
What Happens During the Consultation
The initial consultation at Multigen Wellness is approximately 30–45 minutes via secure telehealth video or phone. The structure is roughly:
Intake review and symptom discussion (15–20 minutes): Your provider reviews your intake questionnaire and discusses your symptoms in depth — onset, severity, impact on quality of life, and what you have tried previously. This is a conversation, not a checklist. You should feel heard, not rushed.
Medical history review (5–10 minutes): Review of relevant conditions, medications, prior lab results if available, and any contraindications to consider.
Lab order discussion: Your provider explains which labs are being ordered, why each marker matters for your situation, and where to get the blood draw. Most patients have their draw within 1–3 business days at a local Quest or LabCorp site.
Preliminary discussion of likely options: Based on your symptoms and history, your provider may share preliminary impressions of what the labs are likely to show and what treatment options will be discussed at the follow-up. This is not a premature prescription — it is informative previewing that helps you think through your preferences before committing to a protocol.
Between Consultation and Results
Labs typically return within 24–48 hours of the blood draw. Your Multigen Wellness provider reviews results and schedules a follow-up (usually within a week of labs returning) to present findings, answer questions, and finalize a treatment protocol if appropriate. Prescriptions are sent to your preferred pharmacy at this point.
What to Ask at Your Consultation
Come with questions. The best consultations are dialogues. Key questions worth asking: What specific labs will determine whether I am a candidate for treatment? What delivery method do you typically recommend for my situation and why? What should I realistically expect in the first 30, 60, and 90 days? What will monitoring look like ongoing? What would be a reason to change or stop the protocol?
