Alabama Hormone Therapy: What Can Happen Online

Alabama hormone therapy with MultiGen Wellness starts with care for women. If you are in perimenopause or menopause and dealing with hot flashes, night sweats or poor sleep, you can talk with a licensed provider about hormone replacement therapy for women. Men with symptoms of low testosterone should know that Alabama adds an in-person step before testosterone can be prescribed by telehealth. We explain that rule below, and you can read how testosterone therapy for men works in general.

If we can serve your location, your consult, lab review and most follow-ups take place by video with a licensed provider, and your blood is drawn at a lab near you. Estradiol and progesterone, two common menopause medicines, are not controlled substances, so the in-person rule for controlled substances described below does not apply to them. A plan that includes testosterone, for a man or a woman, does fall under it.

Alabama hormone therapy with us costs $247 to start (includes your first provider visit), then $97 per visit. Request your consult or call 1-800-259-0015.

Hormone Therapy in Alabama: What to Know

Alabama’s telehealth law (Ala. Code §§ 34-24-700 to 707) shapes how online hormone care works here. The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners summarizes the points that matter most:

  • Licensing. Physicians who treat patients located in Alabama by telehealth must hold a full and active Alabama license. You can look up physicians, and PAs and nurse practitioners in collaborative practice, with the Board’s Licensee Search; nurse practitioner licenses can also be checked with the Alabama Board of Nursing.
  • Controlled substances. Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance under federal law (DEA). In Alabama, a controlled substance may be prescribed by telehealth only if the prescriber has had at least one in-person encounter with you in the past 12 months and the visit uses live audio or video. The Board notes that a video visit with a licensed clinician physically assisting you can count as that encounter.
  • Repeat visits. After more than four telehealth visits in 12 months for the same unresolved condition, you must be seen in person within a reasonable time, no more than 12 months, or be referred to someone who can see you.

Labs. Our national lab partner lists patient service centers in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Florence, Gadsden and other Alabama cities. Your lab order will tell you where to go.

Page last reviewed October 2026. We will review it again by December 2026, when the current federal telemedicine extension for controlled medications is set to end (Federal Register).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is hormone therapy available in Alabama?

New-Patient Special: $247 enrollment — includes your first provider visit.

Yes. MultiGen Wellness offers telehealth hormone therapy in Alabama. Residents of Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, and every other Alabama community can access our telehealth hormone therapy program.

Does insurance, HSA, or FSA cover treatment?

MultiGen Wellness is a self-pay practice. We do not bill insurance and do not accept HSA or FSA cards for services.

How soon will I see results?

Many patients report improved energy, mood, and sleep within the first few weeks of treatment, with fuller results typically developing over 2–3 months as hormone levels stabilize.

Can I start TRT in Alabama without any in-person visit?

Not completely. Because testosterone is a controlled substance, Alabama requires at least one in-person encounter with the prescriber within the past 12 months before it can be prescribed by telehealth. That encounter can be a traditional office visit, or a video visit where a licensed clinician is physically with you. Under the rule, the consult, lab review and many follow-ups can still happen online. Ask about this before you book, so you know whether testosterone treatment is an option for you.

Does that rule apply to menopause hormone therapy?

The rule covers controlled substances. Estradiol and progesterone, two common menopause treatments, do not appear on the DEA’s list of controlled substances, while testosterone does, so a woman whose plan includes testosterone falls under the same requirement. Learn more about menopause care online.

Does Alabama limit how many telehealth visits I can have?

Alabama has a rule for ongoing care. If you have more than four telehealth visits in 12 months for the same condition and it has not resolved, you must be seen in person within a reasonable time, no more than 12 months, or be referred to a provider who can see you (Board summary). The rule is about the condition being treated, not only testosterone, so long-running menopause care can be affected too.

Where do I get blood work done in Alabama?

National labs list sites across the state, including Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile and Montgomery. If your provider orders a testosterone level, book an early slot and come fasting: the Endocrine Society guideline calls for a morning, fasting sample and a second test to confirm a low result. See our guide to TRT blood work for what is usually checked.

How can I tell if an online hormone clinic is legitimate?

Start with the license. The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners’ free Licensee Search shows a license’s status and public disciplinary actions, and the Alabama Board of Nursing covers nurse practitioners. A legitimate program also orders lab work before prescribing, reviews your history in a live visit and plans follow-up monitoring. Be cautious of any site that offers testosterone after a short questionnaire. Our article on whether online TRT is safe and legit covers more warning signs.
