Louisiana Hormone Therapy, Explained Before You Start

From Shreveport to Lafayette to the Northshore, Louisiana hormone therapy with MultiGen Wellness starts with a phone call instead of a waiting room. We help men with symptoms of low testosterone and women whose energy, sleep and mood have shifted with perimenopause or menopause. See our pages on testosterone replacement therapy and women’s hormone therapy.

The first steps are the same for everyone. You talk with our team on a consult call, then get your blood drawn at a lab we help you choose. A licensed provider reviews your results and history with you on a video visit. If menopause treatment is right for you, the prescription goes to a U.S. pharmacy licensed to ship to Louisiana. TRT works differently here: testosterone is a controlled substance, and a Louisiana medical board rule on in-person visits, covered below, shapes how it can be prescribed by telemedicine. Our team will explain what that means for your plan before you start.

Care is $247 to start (includes your first provider visit), then $97 per visit. Request a consult or call 1-800-259-0015.

Hormone Therapy in Louisiana: What to Know

The Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME) licenses physicians and physician assistants. Its telemedicine page explains that a physician without an active Louisiana medical license needs a board telemedicine permit, renewed every year, to treat patients in the state this way. The board defines telemedicine as simultaneous two-way video and audio.

The board’s physician rules (Louisiana Administrative Code, Title 46, Part XLV, Chapter 75) also limit controlled-substance prescribing by telemedicine. A physician may not use telemedicine to prescribe a controlled substance unless, among other conditions, the physician has had at least one in-person visit with the patient within the past year. That matters for TRT, because testosterone sits in Schedule III under both federal law and Louisiana’s own schedules in R.S. 40:964.

The Louisiana Board of Pharmacy runs the state Prescription Monitoring Program, which covers controlled substances dispensed in Louisiana or to a Louisiana address. Lab access is uneven: our national lab partner’s Louisiana directory shows draw sites clustered in the larger cities and the southeast, including New Orleans, Metairie, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Shreveport and several Northshore towns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is hormone therapy available in Louisiana?

New-Patient Special: $247 enrollment — includes your first provider visit.

Yes — MultiGen Wellness providers are licensed to treat patients throughout Louisiana, from New Orleans and Shreveport to smaller towns statewide. All care is delivered through secure, convenient telehealth visits.

Does insurance, HSA, or FSA cover treatment?

MultiGen Wellness is a self-pay practice. We do not bill insurance and do not accept HSA or FSA cards for services.

How soon will I see results?

Many patients report improved energy, mood, and sleep within the first few weeks of treatment, with fuller results typically developing over 2–3 months as hormone levels stabilize.

Do I need an in-person visit to start TRT in Louisiana?

Plan on the possibility. Louisiana’s medical board rules say a physician may not use telemedicine to prescribe a controlled substance, including testosterone, unless the physician has had at least one in-person visit with you within the past year, along with other conditions. Federal DEA rules that let clinicians prescribe controlled medications such as testosterone by telemedicine without an in-person exam are temporary and currently run through December 31, 2026. Ask our team how these rules apply to your plan before you start, and read how to get a TRT prescription online for the federal side.

Does that rule apply to menopause hormone therapy?

The rule is written for controlled substances. Estradiol and progesterone, two common menopause medications, are not controlled substances under federal or Louisiana law; Louisiana’s Schedule III list of anabolic steroids expressly leaves out estrogens and progestins. Testosterone is on that list, including when it is prescribed to women. Your provider will review your symptoms, history and labs by video and explain how this affects your options. To see where you are in the transition, read perimenopause vs. menopause.

Will my Louisiana visit be by video or by phone?

Plan on video. The LSBME defines telemedicine as simultaneous two-way audio and video. A physician may use audio only if, after reviewing your medical records, they decide a phone visit can meet the same standard of care as seeing you in person. An email exchange alone does not count as a telemedicine visit. A quiet, private spot with a good signal is all you need, whether you are in Baton Rouge or out in the parishes.

What should my provider tell me before the first visit?

Louisiana’s telemedicine rules list disclosures a physician must make and document. They include the physician’s name, Louisiana license number and contact information, their specialty, how to get follow-up and emergency care, how to get copies of your records, what happens if the technology fails, and how your health information is kept private. You can confirm a physician’s license through the LSBME license verification portal. For a nurse practitioner, use the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, which licenses NPs.

Where can I get labs drawn in Louisiana?

Our national lab partner lists patient service centers in New Orleans, Metairie, Marrero, Chalmette, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Shreveport, plus Covington, Mandeville, Slidell and Hammond north of Lake Pontchartrain. Near Monroe, Alexandria or Lake Charles? Tell us during your consult, and we will map out a draw plan before you order labs. If you are being tested for low testosterone, book a morning appointment and follow your fasting instructions. Our guide to reading hormone lab results explains the numbers.
