How do testosterone refills work?

Because testosterone is Schedule III, federal rules allow no more than five refills, and a prescription cannot be filled or refilled more than six months after it was issued (21 CFR 1306.22). In practice, that means regular follow-up visits and periodic labs so your provider can renew your prescription and fine-tune your dose. Running low? Reach out a week or two ahead so a renewal does not slip. Federal telemedicine flexibilities that let controlled medications such as testosterone be prescribed without a prior in-person visit currently run through December 31, 2026 (Federal Register).
